AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE INSTITUTE AND SWISS AGENCY FOR
DEVELOPMENT AND COOPERATION (SDC)
The representatives of UNESCO’s International Water
Management Institute (Holland, Delft), Lazlo Hide – Doctor, Irrigation
Engineer and Krishna Pride – Doctor, Soil and Water Resources Specialist, visited
the Institute on the First day of February.
Beno Steffani, Office Manager for Swiss programmes in
disaster risks in the Southern Caucasus, Forecast
Duty Officer in natural disaster risks at the Water Resources Institute
(UNESCO), visited the Institute on the 4th day of July. On the 7-9th days of July, Givi Gavardashvili, Director of the Institute, Beno Steffani from
Switzerland, and David Chichinadze, Representative of Swiss Agency for
Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Georgia, visited Lentekhi and met Kakha Gvelebiani, Head of Lentekhi District. They
considered the subject aimed to control Tumbra and Leksura, tributaries of the
Laskanura and Tskhenistkali
Rivers. Considering the
above-mentioned subject they noted that both rivers can be considered as a type
of scour and debris flow. So, it was decided that phytoreclamation and
engineering measures should be carried out to protect the population of
Lentekhi. The Institute, it was decided, will participate in the Project.
The
Institute and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) entered into
the contract on the 27th July. The subject matter of grant-supported
Project is to aid Lentekhi Administration in preventive zones to prevent
natural disasters.
On the 11-19th days of October upon completion of Grant-Project “Aid to Lentekhi
Administration in Preventive Zones”, the working team under the direction of
Givi Gavardashvili, Director of the Institute, visited Lentekhi and implemented
phytoreclamation and engineering measures. The Project Presentation attended by
Mr. Eric Cyagard, the UN Development Program’s Advisor for emergency situations
in Georgia, Mrs. Nicole Scherer, Risk Management Officer of Swiss Agency for
