SHORT REPORT ABOUT THE 14TH INTERNATIONAL
CONFERENCE ON TRANSPORT AND SEDIMENTATION
The 14th International Conference on Transport and Sedimentation of Solid Particles held
in Saint-Petersburg on the 28-30th days of June.
A collection of
papers from the conference, published on 464 pages, put together 80 papers from
18 countries of the World. About 66 scientists from 18 countries presented
their reports at the conference.
Givi
Gavardashvili, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Director of the Institute of Water
Management, who won the Individual Travel Grants Competition (Contract No GNSF/TR08/24) provided by Georgia
National Science Fund (especially, Short-Term Individual Travel Grants
Competition dedicated to Participation in Scientific Events) took participation
in this conference.
On the day following his arrival to Saint Petersburg (June 22, 2008)
there was held a meeting with the members of Organizing Committee of the
International Conference, especially, Prof. Sergei Ivanov, Dean of
G.V.Plekhanov State Mining Institute, Prof. Victor Alexandrov and Sergei Demijanov, Technical Editor of the
Collected Papers of the Conference.
The 14th International Conference was
officially opened on the 23rd day of June by Prof. Jerzy Sobota, Chairman of the
International Organizing Committee, and Dean of the University
of Vroclav (Poland) and followed by Prof.
Sergei Ivanov, Rector of G.V.Plekhanov State Mining Institute.
On June 24, during breaks at the Conference, the
meetings were held with: Prof. Pavel Vlasak, Director of the Institute of Hydrodynamics,
Prague, Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences
of the Czech Republic,
and Mirali Mohammadi, Professor of the University of Technology,
Iran.
On June 25, the Conference continued its work in
accordance with the program. On this day, Prof. Givi Gavardashvili had meetings
with: Emil Bournaski, Professor of the Institute of Water Problems
of the Bulgarian Academy
of Sciences, Ph.D. Eugeny Semenenko, Scientist of
the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Mechanics of
the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. The attention was paid to the issues of
international relations and preparation of joint projects.
On June 26, at Conference Hall, Prof. G. Gavardashvili
held presentation on “New designs of Spring-board type
drift-trapper and methodology for their calculation”. He answered the
questions of: Prof. Pavel Vlasak (Czech Republic),
Prof. Allan D. Thomas (Australia), Prof. Anders Sellgren, (Sweden)
and Emil Bournaski (Bulgaria).
On the same day, in Saint-Petersburg he had meetings
with Prof. Igor Shiklomanov, Director of the State Institute of Hydrology and
Prof. Zurab Kopaliani, Chief of the Channel Processes Laboratory of the
above-mentioned Institute. Meeting with Marco Vicari, an Engineer and Office-Manager of Italian Firm “Maccaferi” can be considered as a very interesting one.
The attention was paid to use of Maccaferi
Gabions for bank-protection in Georgia.
In the evening the Conference was officially closed.
On June 27, there were held technical visits to
“RUDAS” Company and “KRASIN” Firm, followed by cultural excursion to the Hermitage Museum.
The excursion to Peterhof held on June 28.
The participators of the Conference departed on
June 29-30.
