Report on the Working Meeting Held (Minsk, Belarus) under the Aegis
of the Association of International Academy
of Sciences (MAAH) and the CIS Countries
On
July 10 – 13, 2008 a working
meeting under the aegis of the Association of International Academy of Sciences (MAAH)
and the CIS Countries was held in
Minsk (Belarus), where I was sent on a
mission on the initiative of the Association of International Academy of Sciences (MAAH) to
establish the International Centre for research of mountain streams` (catastrophes,
risk, prognosis and protection with the purpose of implementing the appropriate works.
The
meeting was held in a building of the CIS Executive Committee and were attended
by the members of the Executive Committee of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan,
Belarus, Georgia, Moldova,
Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and the CIS countries.
At the meeting of July 10 I
raised the question of setting up the International Centre in the South Caucasus region on the basis of the Institute of Water
Management, which will research mountain streams:
catastrophes, risk, prognosis and protection.
In the
middle of the meetings I met with Ibragim Guliav, Academician of the
Azerbaijanian National Academy of Sciences, Deputy Director of the Institute
of Geology, Radik
Martirosyan, President of Armenian National Academy of Sciences,
Academician.
On
July 11 meetings were continued with Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the
Presidium of the Byelorussian National Academy of Sciences; Pyotr Vityaz, First
Vice Chairman of the Byelorussian
National Academy of Sciences, Academician; Turat-beg Omoro, Vice President of the National Academy of Science
of Kyrgyzstan, Academician; Grigor Sadovich, Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the CIS countries; Alexander Muzaev, Deputy Director of the Dubna Nuclear Research Institute, Professor and Vladimer Garkun, First Deputy Chairman of
the Executive Committee of CIS
countries.
On July 12 I met with Anton Naumovec, Vice President of
the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences, Academician, Deputy Head of the
Scientific-Organizational Division of the Presidium of the National Academy of
Sciences of Ukraine;
Alexander Ulianenko - Academician, Saijafar Safarov Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the CIS countries and
with other officials.
The
meetings mainly touched upon the cooperation of the Water Management
Institute with different Institutes
within the CIS countries, the International Symposium “Floods and
Contemporary Methods of Fighting against them” (which would be held on
September 23-28, 2009 in Tbilisi (Georgia) under the aegis and with
financial support of UNESKO and be devoted to the 80th anniversary of the Institute)
as well as the inclusion of well-known
scientists in the Scientific Committee.
